Managing Digital Content Over Time

Explore six fundamental elements of preserving digital content and find out how one Chicago Area Archivist is dealing with them in his own shop.

Identify - what digital content do you have?

Select - what portion of that content is your responsibility to preserve?

Store - what issues are there for long term storage?

Protect - what steps need to be taken to protect your digital content?

Manage - what provisions should be made for long term management?

Provide - what considerations are there for long-term access?

This presentation is aimed at practitioners and managers of digital content in academic, corporate, governmental, institutional, library, and museum settings who are new to long-term digital content management. Attendees will get an overview of the curriculum developed by the Digital Preservation Outreach and Education arm of the Library of Congress and walk away with a greater awareness of the scope of digital preservation activities and some resources to learn more.

Andy Steadham is the Archives Specialist at Evanston-based Rotary International, a service organization of 1.2 million members founded in Chicago in 1905. Working in a small team within the Heritage Communications group, Andy is responsible for the processing, preservation, and management of Rotary's historical collections, both analog and digital.

This workshop is limited to 30 registrants.
