CAMA/CARA
The Chicago Area Archivists work closely with two local affiliate groups: the Chicago Area Medical Archivists (CAMA) and the Chicago Area Religious Archivists (CARA). CAMA and CARA meet the specific needs of each group's specialized missions and professional interests. CAMA and CARA Steering Committees schedule their own meetings, maintain their own listservs and/or newsletters and, per the CAA bylaws, may be represented at the CAA Steering Committee meetings to ensure that each group actively participates in CAA planning. |
Chicago Area Medical Archivists (CAMA)Who we areThe Chicago Area Medical Archivists (CAMA) is an informal group of archivists, librarians, healthcare professionals, and others interested in medical history in the Chicago area. CAMA is represented by a variety of professional and clinical specialty associations, academic medical centers, universities, hospitals and local historians. What we doSince 2002, CAMA has served as a professional network to share information and resources through meetings, an annual symposium, and a mailing list. We promote collaborative efforts among participating members and increased awareness and appreciation of the Chicago area’s important medical history for the research community and general public. Meetings are open to all interested persons, who should feel free to add their names to the group’s e-mail mailing list. Through CARA, archivists for religious institutions and agencies, as well as curators for religious manuscript collections, share common concerns and information, become familiar with other religious archives in the Chicago area, and host educational programs for professional development. Membership is open to all individuals interested in the activities of religious archives and religious manuscript repositories in the Chicago area. Meetings are held twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, ordinarily during the day.
