Executive Director, Chicago Women’s History Center, Chicago Loop (Fine Arts Building, 4th floor)

Permanent Part time position, 24 hours per week

Salary: $35,000-45,000

The Chicago Women’s History Center seeks an Executive Director who is engaged in 21st century public history practices and multi-racial and multicultural LGBTQ feminist history. The E.D. will work with the Board to shape the future of the organization and significantly contribute to the CWHC operations, programming and partnerships.

Job Description:

The Executive Director will operate the CWHC as well as work with the Board to envision the next phase of the organization. Responsibilities include:
● Gain strong working knowledge of the CWHC books, resources, special collections and also of other archives and libraries that complement our collection
● Build collaborations and partnerships in the greater community/ies that intersect with CWHC’s mission (including, but not limited to scholars, artists, archivists, poets, and playwrights, etc.)
● Conduct research into alternate organizational models for Board consideration
● Promote the CWHC collections at the UIC Special Collections Library
● Develop programming in conjunction with the Board Program Committee
● Manage a robust social media and email communications strategy
● Produce membership communications
● Hold responsibility for income/expenses (bookkeeping) in conjunction with Treasurer
● Maintain, update website
● Practice digital history
● Demonstrate grant-writing or fundraising experience
● Propose and develop new project initiatives for the organization
● Manage any volunteers, interns, or freelance workers
● Proficiently use MS Office suite or other major software

Requirements: Knowledge and proficiency in doing public history, outreach, and education; building partnerships; writing and posting for social media and ecommunications, Deep interest in women and gender history

Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree
